What is CDBG?

In 2014, the City began receiving an annual allocation of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds through the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)

This program provides grants for neighborhood revitalization, affordable housing, and/or to improve community facilities and services. All projects and programs must principally benefit low-and moderate-income persons.

City of Walla Walla’s 5-yr average annual allocation is $394,909 and varies year to year.

Important dates:

  • Sept. 3 - Application released
  • Oct. 8 - CDBG Program and Application Workshop, 9am in City Hall, City Council Chambers or via Zoom link
  • Oct. 22 - Last day to ask questions or seek assistance from staff
  • Nov. 5 - Application due by 4:30pm

Applying for CDBG 2026 Funds

CDBG funds are allocated annually following CDBG Advisory Board scoring and recommendation for final City Council review and approval.

For notification of the 2026 application period, please sign up for CDBG email notifications by going to the City's Receive City News page and select 'CDBG' under 'News.'

After ten years of receiving funds from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the City is thrilled to reflect on our community’s accomplishments through our Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program.  These are only possible because of strong community partnerships, for which we are thankful, and we look forward to the projects and partnerships that are to come!
