About the CARES Program
A division of the Walla Walla Fire Department, the CARES team provides community outreach and assistance to residents to improve population health and advance injury and illness prevention within our community. Our program identifies members of the community who use the 911 system or emergency department for low acuity assistance calls (calls that are nonemergency or nonurgent) and connects them to their primary care providers, other health care professionals, low-cost medication programs, and other social services.
We aim to reduce hospital readmissions and emergency room visits by navigating resources for chronic health and social needs. We provide nonemergency contact information to provide an alternative resource to the 911 system.
