One Book One Coast: Gaman-Inspired Bird Pins

for Adults and Teens

Wednesday April 15, 2026 from 5:00-7:00 pm, adults and teens are invited to learn about the gaman ("bearing the unbearable") arts practiced by Japanese-Americans incarcerated in prison camps throughout the western U.S. during World War II, and create your own bird pin inspired by the beautiful wooden bird pins made by many prisoners. All supplies are provided for this adult & teen session. This event is part of a series of programs designed to foster community conversations alongside the One Book, One Coast region-wide book club. Learn more about One Book, One Coast on our website at wallawallapubliclibrary.org and on our Facebook events page.
